Dumping the Dish

Me and DirecTV was not meant to be. About a year and a half ago, I decided to dump digital cable because of a contract problem with Fox Sports Net. I could care less about sports, but my father was worried that he wasn't going to see the Twins games. ONE day after having the dish installed, the contract dispute was settled with Fox Sports & Time Warner Cable. (My father has since passed away.)

Now I'm switching back. After numerous service calls to fix the satellite reception, including getting a whole new dish, I still lose the signal when it rains. I've had it. Time Warner Cable is coming back tomorrow to reinstall digital cable, and they are giving me a hell of a deal to do it.

I definitely will miss my DirecTV TiVo, but all is not lost in that department. I'm going to try the DVR that the cable company offers. If I don't like it, I can always buy a regular TiVo and hook it up to the cable line.

Everyone else I know that has DirecTV does not have these problems. I guess it was just not meant to be.

If you don't hear from me for a couple days, it will be because of this. Hopefully, the reinstall will be trouble-free.

Out here we have Cox and Time/Warner, depending on where you live. I have Cox. I've been very happy with the DVR player they gave us. Once in a while there will be a little weird sound glitch but that's been rare.

With Cox I have my internet, TV and telephone all bundled together.

Oh, if their DVR doesn't work out - I hear Toshiba has one for about $1000 that has a built-in DVD burner. How cool is that? Maybe the price will come down.
