Today is the Day for "Sicko"
Friends,
This is it! Two years in the making! The day that our new film, "Sicko," arrives in theaters all across North America! Click here to see where the nearest one is to you.
After you go, let me know what you think. Oh, and send us a photo or a video from your cell phone to show us what it looked like at your theater. We'd love to post a photo from each of the 440 movie theaters showing "Sicko."
To read more about the movie, you can go to http://www.michaelmoore.com/.
Here's what this morning's review in the L.A. Times said: "It's likely his most important, most impressive, and most provocative film." Okay, what do they know? I prefer to trust the assessment of E! Television Online: " 'Sicko' - the best movie ever? Maybe." Maybe? MAYBE?! When will they ever give me a break?
It's been a weirdly funny week. First Larry King bumped me for Paris Hilton. Then today, when CNBC invited me to the floor of the New York Stock Exchange for an interview, the stock exchange said I was barred from the building. On top of that, Tony Blair is gone, Cheney says he's no longer answerable to anyone's elected government, and I simply don't want an iPhone. Just another week in America.
Hope you enjoy the movie!
Yours,
Michael Moore

Note from Lizzy:
When the film was leaked on the Internets, I have to admit that I couldn't resist downloading it. However, my better judgement got the best of me and I didn't watch it. I would much rather see the film on the big screen with like-minded people, than watch it alone, sitting in front of a 19 inch monitor in my office for 2 hours.
Plus, I'm more than happy to give Michael Moore and his crew my $8.

Indulge me for a moment
I'm testing Blogger's new video uploader with some footage I shot in the backyard today. Sorry it's so dark. I didn't use my regular camcorder.
This is only a test. There is better stuff to come.

I have to get to the bottom of this
I'm having a colonoscopy tomorrow -- yay! Actually, no, it sucks. I have been fearing this day for months. I've rescheduled the appointment twice.
I've been having stomach problems for about a year. They've done blood tests and checked me for worms, but haven't found anything, so this is the next step.
The worst part of having this procedure is the preparation. You have to take laxatives and drink a gallon of this nasty stuff. Half of it has to be consumed 4 hours before the appointment. That means I have to wake up at 4:30 in the morning. Ugg.
And then there's the fast. The fasting started midnight (last night) and continues until after my appointment tomorrow morning. Arrgh.
I've heard that the actual procedure isn't that bad because they knock you out a little, so at least that's something.
Fun, fun, fun. : (

More proof of the Bush/bin Laden connection
I hate to post anything from the conservative group, Judicial Watch, but this story needs to get widespread coverage...which it isn't:
Judicial Watch Releases New FBI Documents: Osama bin Laden May Have Chartered Saudi Flight Out of U.S. after 9/11
(Washington, DC) -- Judicial Watch, the public interest group that investigates and prosecutes government corruption, today released new documents from the Federal Bureau of Investigation (“FBI”) related to the “expeditious departure” of Saudi nationals, including members of the bin Laden family, from the United States following the 9/11 attacks. According to one of the formerly confidential documents, dated 9/21/2001, terrorist Osama bin Laden may have chartered one of the Saudi flights.
The document states: “ON 9/19/01, A 727 PLANE LEFT LAX, RYAN FLT #441 TO ORLANDO, FL W/ETA (estimated time of arrival) OF 4-5PM. THE PLANE WAS CHARTERED EITHER BY THE SAUDI ARABIAN ROYAL FAMILY OR OSAMA BIN LADEN…THE LA FBI SEARCHED THE PLANE [REDACTED] LUGGAGE, OF WHICH NOTHING UNUSUAL WAS FOUND.” The plane was allowed to depart the United States after making four stops to pick up passengers, ultimately landing in Paris where all passengers disembarked on 9/20/01, according to the document.
Overall, the FBI’s most recent document production includes details of the six flights between 9/14 and 9/24 that evacuated Saudi royals and bin Laden family members. The documents also contain brief interview summaries and occasional notes from intelligence analysts concerning the cursory screening performed prior to the departures. According to the FBI documents, incredibly not a single Saudi national nor any of the bin Laden family members possessed any information of investigative value.

It could be many things...
I'm not sure what it is.
Maybe because it's finally summertime
- or -
because I'm almost done with the Spring semester of school & I have my final coming up
-or-
because I'm completely burned out on politics (well, not completely)
-or-
because I'm slightly obsessed with MySpace
...but I haven't been into blogging lately, and I'm feeling bad about it.
I'm hoping this is only temporary. Anyone else feeling this way?

I Was Tagged A "Thinking Blog"
I got tagged by Larry of the excellent blogs, "Let's Talk" & "Let's Talk About It." It was an honor to be recognized by one of the best bloggers. The rules, created by The Thinking Blog, are thus:
1. If, and only if, you get tagged, write a post with links to 5 blogs that make you think,
2. Link to this post so that people can easily find the exact origin of the meme,
3. Optional: Proudly display the 'Thinking Blogger Award' with a link to the post that you wrote (here is an alternative silver version if gold doesn't fit your blog).
Below are the five blogs I chose that makes you Think.
1. Pissed on Politics: Of all the bloggers I know, PoliShifter is, by far, the most wonderfully prolific. I read his blog several times a day. In this age of dumbed-down MSM news, PoliShifter keeps it very real. His anger is palpable, which I find inspiring. (I even proposed to him once.)
2. Major Conflict: When I started blogging three years ago, I thought I was writing in a vacuum...that was until J. Marquis came along. He was the first one to find me, and we have been buddies ever since. Whether Jim is writing original posts, or reposting some of the best articles on the Internets, his blog always makes me think. I love his tagline: "Taking the country back, one talking point at a time." Hell yeah!
3. Various Ecstasies: Jim's friend, Snave, was the second one to find me, and again, we have been friends ever since. Sometimes I think of Snave as the male version of me, as we share OCD, among other things. Snave is a thoroughly researched blogger that often gives me a different perspective on things...and his "disgusting scatological humor" is always good for a laugh.
4. CouchWarfare: The third blogger to find me was none other than New Zealand's Damien Morgan. Damien is a fantastic artist and can often say more with one illustration than 1000 words. He is truly an international man of mystery...someday we'll find out what he does for a living.
5. Who Hijacked Our Country?: Tom Harper's blog is always a good read. Tom has a thoughtful and clever take on the news. His post "Jerry Falwell Speaks, " was one of my favorite blog posts ever.
I wish I could have included more. Liberty Lost, When the World Is Running Down, Blognonymous, Chapterhouse, A Thought Vacuum, Morning Martini, and Wreckening Force could all have easily been on this list.

My trip home
On my last post, I mentioned that the plane trip home was nerve-racking. After careful consideration, I have decided that it would be politically incorrect to explain...and I was being prejudice.
I hope you can surmise where I'm going with this.
It was definitely not my best moment.

I'm back
I'm back from New York City. I had a wonderful time.
The dinner for my brother was impressive. I was very proud of him. The companion dedication book was signed by Hillary Clinton, Mayor Bloomberg, and Chuck Schumer. As Ron Burgundy would say, he's kind of a big deal.
I spent a lot of time with my brother & his family, cousins, Aunt, Uncle, and great Aunt Ruth. That was the best part. I don't get to see them often enough and being with them made my sister & I want to move there. We are considering a move to Brooklyn or New Jersey. Manhattan would be great, but I'd like a house with a yard for Norman & Stella...and the prices are high, to say the least.
I miss my cousins already. They are the best people in the world.
We did lots & lots of shopping, as well. The best shopping was in Soho.
Times Square was awesome. My niece & I ate at the Hello Deli, where we got to meet Rupert G from Late Night with David Letterman. We walked in and there he was! Just like on the show.
The last day we went to 30 Rockefeller Center. My nephew and I went to the "Top of the Rock," where you go up to the observation deck on the 70th floor. It was super-cool.
Many miles were walked, a lot of delicious food was eaten, (pizza, of course) and good times were had by all.
I am still afraid of flying, but I was able to get on the plane. The return flight was nerve-racking, as I will explain at a later date.

Some things I've learned about NYC:
At certain times of the day, it is impossible to catch a cab.
Unlike driving in Minnesota, cars stop for yellow lights.
I could live there.

Fear of Flying
When I was young, I loved to fly. For me, the best part of family vacations was getting on an airplane.
As I got older, and anxiety problems and OCD set in, a fear of flying began to grow. It may have started when Reagan fired the striking air traffic controllers, and then got worse when the Lockerbie flight exploded in Scotland, and later, the mystery of what brought down TWA flight 800 near Long Island freaked me out big time.
And then 9/11 happened.
I have flown one time since 9/11. Tom & I flew to New York in 2002 to see my family. I almost broke his hand during take-off.
In the last few months, I have purchased and cancelled two trips to see friends in California.
On Wednesday night, there is a dinner honoring my brother in New York. I will be traveling with my sister and her two grown children.
You could say that I'm a little nervous.
