Instant karma got me

My karma is all out of whack due to some personal issues I'm dealing with. I never thought that I would turn out to be the bad guy, but I am now.

I'm trying to turn things around and make things right, but it isn't easy. I'm being pulled in many directions.

Maybe, I should just chuck it all and run away with PoliShifter. Nah, that wouldn't be right, either.

Have any of you ever dealt with bad karma?

Oh yes.
Certainly have.

Absolutely. Karma is a really powerful force.

Yes, yes... and sometimes it never completely goes away. If I choose to think about some of the rude and hurtful stuff I did 25, 30, even 35 years ago, I can instantly feel icky.

On the other hand, I do feel that once I have admitted to myself that some things I have done just aren't right, I begin to feel a little less badly. Once that happens, I find it easier to approach those I've wronged and to make apologies, even years later... and when I have done that, the response I have usually gotten is usually something like "You've got to be kidding... are you still worried about that?" or else they get a huge belly laugh. I find that response to be both a relief and an insult.

Karma can just about kill you sometimes, but I also think time is a great healer, and IMHO, love is the greatest healer of all. I posted about some of that on my blog today: this past weekend, I was at a family reunion where there were numerous opportunities for people who held grudges to blow up at each other, but nothing like that was even close to happening... There were several ex-spouses there, and that part of our family has certain little battles that have been going on for years. Despite that, love ruled. It was kind of like a mass healing of sorts.

So, don't despair. If you "done wrong" and you know you did, I think you have won half the battle. The other half takes time and may be tougher; I think you'll have to create opportunities to atone in one way or another. Take care, good luck, and smile through the tears and the hurt, if you can!

I'm a true believer in Karma, I sincerely believe that my bad actions come back to haunt me, usually twofold. I think the Beatles put it best, "and in the end, the love you take is equal to the love you make." Pretty good philosophy if you ask me.

Well, it's good to know that I'm not the only one that has experienced this. From 2 car accidents in 2 months, and a general feeling of, as Snave put it, "ickiness," I'm definitely in the thick of it.

Since getting off drugs 13 years ago, I would say that I've been a good person, and some would say, generous to a fault. I thought that would shield me from this, but it hasn't.

I'll get through it. Thanks, guys.

When Karma rears its ugly face you had better take cover, and fast! Hello Lizzy, I've been away for a while. But, I'm Baaack!

Pardon me for quoting Oprah, who quoted Maya Angelou, but this is good to remember: "When you know better, you do better." Now you know better, you'll do better from now on, so let it go. You've attempted to make amends where possible, and at least you learned something.

Actually, I no longer believe in karma, at least not as some force or cosmic law. The belief fosters guilt trips, IMO, and those are destructive.

Peace.

Indeed, but I fundamentally believe that karma is an 'outlook' percipitated by our deeds and the effect that they have on our concious mood. Thus, the only way to deal bad karma is to put some 'good karma' into the world--counteract the bad stuff in your head.

Assign your self a penance based on doing something good for the world or somebody else, follow through and watch the effects.

I definitely have dealt with some bad karma. In your case, though, please rest assured that this doesn't mean you're a bad person or anything. I'm pretty new to your blog, and lurk a bit, but I can tell that you are a genuinely good person. Maybe karma is kind of like mail - sometimes it gets delivered to the wrong person. You can either throw it away, put it back in the mailbox, or open it and sign up for a credit card in someone else's name.

I think the analogy broke down, but you know what I mean :)

I may no longer believe in the phrase "what comes around, goes around," because if that were true, the people that are ruining our country would get what's coming to them, but that never happens. However, I do believe in karma.

I agree with you, Candace, when you say that guilt is destructive.

Peter, cool pic, huh?

kvatch, I wonder if volunteering for the Frankin campaign would counter balance the bad karma?

Thanks, playtah. That made me feel better. Maybe it was "mailed" to the wrong person. : )

Welcome back, WF. Where have you been?

Damien, Yes, Evil Lizzy is kind of fun, but I know I'm only hurting myself.

Yes, I've definitely seen and experienced Karma, in little ways and in the larger picture.

I don't want to go into any personal detail, but one thing I've noticed time and again when I'm driving: when a car cuts in front of me, within a minute or two another car cuts right in front of that car. I've seen that sequence way too many times for it to be a coincidence. I know that's a trivial example, but it's something I've seen first-hand over and over.

I guess that's what I'm going through right now.
