I wish I had said that

My good buddy, Snave, posted some excellent quotes a couple of days ago. They were so good that I thought I'd repost some of them, and more:

Never forget that everything Hitler did in Germany was legal.
Martin Luther King

Nothing in the world is more dangerous than sincere ignorance and conscentious stupidity.
Martin Luther King

When I feed the poor, they call me a saint. When I ask why the poor have no food, they call me a communist.
Dom Helder Camara, Archbishop of Recife, Brazil

When a man tells you that he got rich through hard work, ask him whose.
Don Marquis

The bigger the lie, the more often it's told, the more who believe it.
Joseph Gobbels, Nazi Minister of Propaganda

They will do whatever we let them get away with.
Joseph Heller

The first duty of a revolutionary is to get away with it.
Abbie Hoffman

Nothing wrong with a few professional protesters, when the world is full of professional oppressors.
Alan Bamford

I do not know with what weapons World War 3 will be fought, but World War 4 will be fought with sticks and stones.
Albert Einstein

The ultimate measure of a man is not where he stands in moments of comfort and convenience, but where he stands in times of challenge and controversy.
Martin Luther King

I saw the best minds of my generation destroyed by madness...
Allen Ginsberg

The superior person understands rightness; the inferior person understands profit.
Confucious

Only after the last tree has been cut down. Only after the last river has been poisoned. Only after the last fish has been caught. Only then you will find that money cannot be eaten.
Cree Indian prophecy

Don't agonize. Organize.
Florence Kennedy

If the ass is protecting the system, ass-kicking should be undertaken, regardless of the sex, ethnicity, or charm of the ass involved.
Florence Kennedy

If you give me a fish, you have feed me for a day. If you teach me to fish, then you have fed me until the river is contaminated or the shore line seized for development. But if teach me to organize, then whatever the challenge I can join together with my peers and we will fashion our own solution.
Ricardo Levins Morales

My favorites:

All truth goes through three stages. First it is ridiculed. Then it is violently opposed. Finally, it is accepted as self-evident.
Arthur Schopenhauer

The notion that a radical is one who hates his country is naive and usually idiotic. He is, more likely, one who likes his country more than the rest of us, and is thus more disturbed than the rest of us when he sees it debauched. He is not a bad citizen turning to crime; he is a good citizen driven to despair.
H.L. Mencken

First they ignore you. Then they laugh at you. Then they fight you. Then you win.
Mahatma Gandhi

One cannot say that all conservatives are stupid people, one can say that most stupid people are conservative.
John Stuart Mill

Great spirits have always encountered violent opposition from mediocre minds.
Albert Einstein

The important thing is never to stop questioning.
Albert Einstein

We cannot solve problems we have created with the same thinking that created them.

Albert Einstein

It is the responsibility of intellectuals to speak the truth and expose lies.
Noam Chomsky

Feminism is the radical notion that women are people.
Cheris Kramer and Paula Treichler

A man who walks down the centre line of a road risks getting hit from both sides.
Alexander Zlatanovic

Be patient. It may take thirty years, but sooner or later they'll listen to you, and in the meantime, keep kicking ass.
Florence Kennedy

During times of universal deceit, telling the truth becomes a revolutionary act.
George Orwell

How 'bout this one for your blog, flower child?:
"One death is a tragedy. A million deaths is a statistic"

ooops!...Uncle Joe Stalin is one of the Communist/Green/Socialist heroes.

One death is a tragedy. A million deaths is a stastistic.

Why don't you pass that over to the Bush Administration?

Here is one of my favorites: 'First they came for the Communists, but I was not a Communist, so I said nothing. Then they came for the Social Democrats, but I was not a Social Democrat, so I did nothing. Then came the trade unionists, but I was not a trade unionist. And then they came for the Jews, but I was not a Jew, so I did little. Then when they came for me, there was no one left to stand up for me.'

Here's a nice, relevant Stalin quote for "Anonymous:

"Those who cast the votes decide nothing. Those who count the votes decide everything."
- Josef Stalin

It was nice that "Anonymous" could take enough time off from listening to AM radio or FOX News to post a comment!

Stalin was evil. He had tens of millions of his own citizens put to death. Why would you say Stalin is a hero to Greens? Or to anyone, for that manner? By the way, thanks for not including Democrats in your list of Stalin-lovers. I know it was probably an oversight, but maybe you'll do better next time.

Actually, "anonymous," if you want to get technical about it, I was born in the 60's, so I can't be a flower child. However, I do take it as a compliment. I would much rather be a flower child than a raving Reich-wing ignoramus.

And, your excuse about posting as "anonymous" doesn't hold water. If I'm not afraid of you righties, you shouldn't be afraid of us lefties.

Thanks for the back-up, Samantha & Donald. Great retorts!
